About Us

Comfort Elementary School is the only public school in the rural town of Comfort, NC and one of five schools in Jones County. Our school has a population of 150+ students, serving grades pre-kindergarten through six. Our student demographics are made up of 74% Caucasian, 9% African American, 6% Hispanic, and 11% Multiracial. Comfort Elementary is a school-wide Title I program with a population of 100% enrolled in the School Lunch Program. Jones County Schools Nutritional Program received a grant that provides all students free breakfast and lunch. Comfort Elementary also received a grant to provide the students with fresh fruits and vegetables as a healthy snack alternative.

Our small population of 150+ students creates an ideal setting for a model community school. Class size is lower than the state average. Our teaching staff is represented by 100% highly qualified personnel. We have a physical education teacher serving each student once a day, two days a week. We offer encore classes of media skills, music, and art once a week. All students will be able to access a computer device and interactive SMART Boards are located in each classroom. The computer carts and iPad carts are an excellent resource for classroom projects, curriculum-based tutorials, and testing.

At Comfort Elementary we implement the Positive Behavior Intervention Support Program. Many of our teachers use Class DoJo to keep parents abreast of positive and negative student behaviors. We maintain a high safe school rating and provide a tremendous resource for the community in the form of buildings, play-fields, and programs. Our school is AdvancEd accredited.

Our community is made of a close-knit group of parents who are friends, relatives, and neighbors. Parents have been very supportive of the numerous programs offered during and after school.
